DON G CAFE!
Wednesday, March 6, 2013 | 8:48 AM | 0 candies
Don G cafe was the last and final restaurant for our assignment. Don G Cafe serves a wide variety of food that includes Chinese and Western cuisines. It is conveniently located right outside of Sunway Campus. Don G Cafe caters for the students from Sunway University College and Monash University.

It is often not too crowded and has a nice relaxing environment when we're inside. You can either sit outside where you will be well fanned or if you would like to avoid the afternoon heat like most of us Malaysian do, you can take a sit inside the cafe and enjoy the air-con. The price of the food is also reasonable and affordable for an average college student. The price ranges from RM5 to RM12 for a full meal and another option would be the special set which has a different choice every day which is a bit similar to the Subway sandwiches concept. You can get it at RM7.90 from Monday to Thursday while on Friday, you can get it at RM9.90 and on Saturday, you can get it at RM11.90.

Meal of the day ( Different everyday )

The portion of food given here is reasonable and it will ensure that you will be satisfied until dinner. Normally the main choice of food will be rice because it is one of their specialties (Dry Butter Cream Chicken, Yum!!). The service here is good as the waiters will normally welcome you with a friendly greeting and a heart-warming smile but the only problem with the service is that it takes quite a while for the food to arrive especially for those who are not ordering the Meal of the Day.

On the other hand, to compensate for this, we used the time waiting by playing board games that are provided at the sides of the walls. These board games are not your usual board games that you see as they consist of European board games, just to name a few games such as The Settlers of Catan, Blokus and Jungle Speed: Rabbids. The great thing about it is that you get to play it as long as you want so you can play it while waiting for your food or after eating (or even for some of those who are people who are crazy about games they can play it while they are eating).

Some of the games that were provided at the sides. :)
(Personally my favourite game is Catan.)

Lets move on to the food that we ate there,

The all so famous chinese "kung po" chicken with rice (popular Chinese dish)

 Drink of the day.

Sweet and sour chicken with rice (+the eggs and veg)

Thai chicken with rice (If you wanted something spicy this would be a good choice)

Beef poutine (In black pepper sauce which was the recommended serving)

Butter cream chicken with rice (One of everyone's favourite dish of our group)

As I said before, the most popular choices were rice, because it is the most reasonable choice out of the menu. Also, another reason was because we, as Malaysians mostly take rice for lunch and dinner and it has become a special tradition of ours. Not many other countries can enjoy rice as much as we do so we should enjoy the moment. The beef poutine was specially ordered by Jason because he wanted to try something a little bit Western.

That is all we can talk about Don G, so overall Don G would be a good place to chill and get a reasonably priced lunch. We would come again when we have the chance and wouldn't mind suggesting it to other people.

Finally, here's our group photo of the day.

Second attack: Shogun
Tuesday, March 5, 2013 | 9:41 PM | 0 candies

On 25th February 2013, while waiting for the public speaking seminar later that evening, our group consisting of Wei Teng, Joshua and Jason along with Ben and Cavin as guests decided to have a japanese buffet at Shogun Sunway Pyramid expecting a great lunch.

The staffs and waiters were quite welcoming as they restricted us from entering the compound till the exact time the restaurant open eventhough we just wanted to sit down and relax before we ‘dig in’. The head chef was scary and with a deep voice, ‘pleasantly’ informed that there was no fresh oysters for today. Despite that, the sashimi and sushi especially the salmon sashimi didn’t disappoint us.

Joshua was moody at first due the fact that his favourite fresh oysters aren’t available but the rest of us we too hungry to dash in to our meals.

(the main serving deck for the fresh sashimi)

(The sushi serving deck for the variety for sushi)

( serving deck for Chinese and Western cuisine )

( a variety of raw salmon )

( the tempura is a bit cold but its tasty )

( the vegetables were fresh and muscles was great cooked with sweet and sour

sauce)

The sashimi serving deck mainly consists of Japanese sashimi that includes salmon, Hokkigai, Hokkaido Hotate, Hamachi, Akami Maguro, Tako and Kajaiki. Furthermore, the sushi serving deck consists of Nigiri, Gunkan, Inari, Maki, Temaki and Makimono. Unfortunately, there was no Unagi served in this branch. (Unagi is a normally a signature dish found in Japanese restaurants.) There was also a variety of Chinese and western cuisines served in Shogun. However, the quality of food didn’t meet our expectations and the taste was bland.

After all the appetizers and main course dishes, we ‘attacked’ the desserts!!!
Shogun has a wide variety of desserts including the chocolate fountain, cakes, fruits and ice-cream. They even had a variety of  local “kuih-muih” and a limited but sufficient amount of ice cream flavours. The chocolate fountain was fun to play with as we were scooping the chocolate into our ice creams bowls.

( chocolate fountain and a variety of things that goes well with it)

All in all, the food was decent compared to the price but the service was terrible. However, we only managed to stay for the buffet for less than 2 hours because we had to go back to college for our public speaking seminar. Moreover, we wouldn’t recommend this restaurant due to its prices and quality of service obtained.

Other than that, we also took many self shots photos of ourselves. Enjoy!

Waiting outside the restaurant.

Digging in on our food. Yum yum yum!
Food Hunt - Ru Jia Xiao Chu aka Zhia's Kitchen Restaurant
Sunday, March 3, 2013 | 6:46 AM | 0 candies

One day, while waiting for our seminar to start, we walked to Sunway Pyramid to hunt for food. After hovering around the mall and looking at the directories, we decided to try out Zhia’s Kitchen Restaurant.

Zhia’s Kitchen Restaurant (如家小厨) is a restaurant which serves a variety of Chinese cuisine. It is said to be a popular hangout for students and office workers during weekdays and family dinner gatherings at night. It is located at the Ground Floor besides Kim Gary Restaurant. We went there before lunch hour so the place was not fully pack. Basically, you can choose to sit outdoor or inside the air-conditioned section.

Their decoration is in red colour which symbolised good fortune and joy in Chinese culture.

The restaurant environment was clean and neat.

Zhia’s Kitchen Restaurant also provided separate rooms for the big families to host grand dinners here.

A paper menu and pencil was provided on every table for us to mark our orders and the waiter collected them.

One of the pages of the menu of Zhia’s Kitchen Restaurant.

Zhia’s Kitchen Restaurant was once promoted at the showcase “Cepat-Cepat Cari Makan”.

Local celebrity, Gary left a message to support them. :>

Look at this girl can't wait to taste her food! :D

Hui Shing ordered “Crispy Pork Chop with Cereal and Rice” (RM9.90) which was one of the most popular dishes in the menu. This dish was very appetizing. The crispy pork chop is very crispy and crunchy with the cereal. Zhia’s specially made chilli sauce added zing to the taste!

Next, Jia Ying ordered Fung Shing Dumpling Chinese Noodles (RM11.90) which is under the “Lamien” category meaning “hand-pulled noodles”. Fung Shing Dumpling Noodles is well known in Zhia’s Kitchen Restaurant and it is highly recommended by the chef of the restaurant. The simple looking dumplings actually had a mouthful of delighted surprises with its size bigger than normal dumplings sold in other restaurants.

While Su-Lynn tried the ‘Kampung’ fried rice (RM9.90) and Jasmine Green Tea (RM2.90) .The fried rice was nothing to shout about, too much dried prawns added which makes its taste different. Also, the squid was overcooked and tough, making it difficult to chew.

The jasmine green tea was a combination of jasmine tea and green tea. The fragrance of the tea leaves smells good. It was very soothing and thirst quenching, suitable to drink in this hot weather.

On the whole, we will pay a visit to this restaurant again to try out other varieties because the food here is tasty and the portions are just nice. Other than that, the service is efficient as we did not wait long for our food to come. The waiters are very pleasant and attentive too. So, we will definitely recommend this place to others as the prices are very reasonable and affordable for students.
